BIT Sindri

Prof. S K Singh, Director, BIT Sindri, a true academician, researcher and visionary person in the field of Technical education has an illustrated experience of more than 3 decades. Born on the 21st Day of Aug., 1952 at Patna had throughout brilliant career in education. Passed the Matriculation Examination in the Year 1968; Pre University from Patna University in the Year - 1969.

He received the B.Sc. Engg. degree in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Patna ( previously BCE Patna) in the 1974 and the M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Patna in 1987 and 1993 respectively.

Inspite of large number of offers from various organizations, he opted teaching as the career and held several responsible positions in this field in various Technical Education Institutions. He served as Asst. Professor in Mechanical Engg. in the Deptt. of Science & Technology, Govt. of Bihar for nearly one decade ( 1978 – 1988), then shifted to NIT Patna in the Department of Mechanical Engg., where he served in various capacities, i.e. Lecturer ( 05 months) Associate Professor ( 6 years, 1988 – 1994) and Professor of Mechanical Engg. (10 years, 1994 – 2004). He became Professor & Head, Computer Science Studies centre at NIT Patna for short while and then joined another important assignment in the dual capacity as Professor & Head, Computer Science & Engineering and MCA at NIT Patna. His latest assignment being the coveted position of Director, BIT Sindri since Aug. 2006.

Besides these academic positions, also served NIT Patna as Asst. Registrar (Academics) ; Asst. Warden, Prof. In Charge Vehicle, Convener IT Cell, Dean Academics and many others.

His teaching and research interests include Thermal Engineering ; Renewable Sources of Energy and Programming & Programming Methodology AUTO CAD. He has guided several research projects such as project of modernisation of Gas Turbine & Turbomachine laboratory of MHRD, Govt. of India, project of Improved Chula Unit of Bihar Renewable Energy Development agency etc. He successfully guided several students for Ph.D. & M.Tech , besides guiding many more for the same. Besides having been published more than two dozen times in reputed National/ International Journals and Seminar & Conference Proceedings having been chair person for various Technical Institutions in the AICTE - NBA Accreditation.

He is the life member of various professional bodies such as ISTE, DOEACC, Computer Society of India, Institution of Engineers and is the Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag and also a member of the Academic Council, Examination Board of the University.

He has been the key person for phenomenal and quality changes/ upgradation of BIT Sindri including introduction of semester system & accreditation of courses and has been an important linkage between the industry & academics.
